Skip 10 mins every day in May to raise funds for melanoma research at The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity

Welcome to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity Skipathon Challenge to raise money for melanoma research at the Royal Marsden where I am currently treated for stage 4 melanoma. Dust off your skipping rope and get ready to join the Shomelanoma team by skipping for 10 mins every day in May to coincide with Melanoma Awareness Month. If you haven’t seen a skipping rope since school or are already a skipping expert we would love you to join us for this month long challenge. We’ll be having lots of fun, count your skips, show off your best skipping tricks, get fit and all for a good cause. There will be lots of skipping tips; competitions and prizes so get the whole family involved plus a group and daily tracker to share progress and keep motivated. You can also get your children’s school involved and get students to skip for 10 mins every day or in another way that suits their school such as a multi day or sponsored sports day race. Join in the fun and raise funds for a great cause.
Your support and involvement mean more than you can imagine to both the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. The Royal Marsden is a world leading cancer centre. They ensure that nurses, doctors and research teams can provide the very best care and life saving treatments which are used across the UK and around the world. As little as 10 years ago the prognosis for a stage 4 melanoma patient was 6 – 9 months. Due to cancer research and clinical trials led by The Royal Marsden new immunotherapy and targeted treatments mean that over 50% of patients are surviving more than 5 years. However the current treatments don’t work for 50% of stage 4 patients and also leave life debilitating side effects and there is much more to be done.

We will also be setting up a Justgiving page dedicated to the Skipathon for friends and family to support all the skippers amazing efforts. If you would like to set up your own fundraising page please let me know and it can be added to the team page.
All funds raised from the skipathon will go to melanoma research at the Royal Marsden led by my Oncologist Professor James Larkin and his colleague Professor Samra Turajlic , full details of the research projects supported are available on the main Shomelanoma blog.
